What was your undergraduate degree and when did you graduate?

I did a BSc in Business Information Technology and graduated in 2004.

What is your job title and role?

Software Developer – to design and implement websites.

Could you briefly describe the organization you work for?

S8080 in Swansea. They are a small web design team but have some big clients.

Did you complete a foundation degree or HND/C before studying for your degree?

Yes, I did a HND in Computer Information Systems.

What modules are most helpful to you in your job?

SQL.

Where do you use your specialist skills and abilities (e.g. business, programming, web, databases, networks etc.) I use my skills everyday – using SQL, web design, programming.

Do you have a typical day and how would you describe it?

I would have a team meetingg in the morning, this would give me an idea of what is required for that day. Then I would carry on programming websites and researching new technologies.

What aspects of your job do you enjoy most?

SQL.

Any tips for someone wanting to develop a career in your sector?

Learn c# or Java, these are the two languages that people are crying out for and pay good money – if you are ok with contracting and working in London, Cardiff, Bristol you can be on silly money – £350 – £500 a day. IT is one of the well paid jobs.
